I am a single mom on a fixed income.Do you know of cheaper towns in Colorado/ with good hiking, camping, and swimming ? ( If there was a small hot springs that would be nice) I will ask about a town with milder winters due to health. I have 2 dogs and a child with special needs; all with lots of energy. I really love 2 grow a veg. garden,so good rich soil is important. I know I can't have it all ; just sayin whats important. I hope to see an improvement in my health after some time in Colorado. A town with lots of Pick Your Own Farms would be perfect for me ! ! Last but not least- I have a housing authority voucher to help me pay a portion of my rent. I sincerely Thankyou for your time and advice. from single mom in Kentucky

Try asking in the Colorado forum.. However, towns with lovely mountain views, lots of sports activities, and good weather aren't cheap.

There are also water issues in Colorado, so before you buy, make sure you can get water for those veggie gardens.

There are no "cheaper" places whatsoever in Colorado that will meet your wish list combination of "milder" winters, u-pick farms, accessible swimming, good rich soil, etc.

Most folk from riparian areas of the USA with plenty of rich soils, abundant potable water, mild winters, u-pick farms, etc. ... don't have a clue that Colorado is a high altitude state with vicious winters throughout, be it in the mountains (where the "hot springs" may be found, but the lake waters are hypothermia temp freezing cold fed by the mountain snow melt run off) or along the populated Front Range. The concept of a milder winter here in Colorado is only found in relative terms to the mountains ... and make no mistake, the plains areas have vicious winter storms that blast through there.

Unfortunately, your needs list will not be met anywhere within Colorado. End of story. There are hundreds of similar threads on the Colorado forum with the same misperceptions about Colorado.

What you seek will only be found in low altitude riparian areas of the USA, especially the idea of a "less expensive" place to live with all the amenities you require.
