America may run on Dunkin’, but its coffee cups are finally catching up with the recycling movement.

To comply with a New York City law that went into effect today banning expanded polystyrene (EPS) – aka Styrofoam--the donut giant created a recyclable cup. And now Huffington Post reports that the company says it might bring its new cups to the rest of its locations across the country as well.

Too bad Styrofoam is so bad for the environment. I like those cups, they don't allow my fingers to burn holding a hot fresh cuppa.

Glad to hear it! That's one of the reasons I never get tea from there. Aside from the environmental concerns, I don't like the idea of ingesting hot water from a cup made of a chemical soup.

What about the styrofoam doughnuts?

Notice how fast they dry out?

Yay! Another reason to like DD. Now if only they'd let me bring my own cup for beverages, I'd be there everyday.

(Yes, I realize it's hard to police the sizing of non-standard cups, but perhaps DD could sell its own reusable/refillable mugs?)

There's usually a huge display of to-go mugs for sale.

I wonder what is going to happen when the trans-fat ban goes into full effect for DD...

I always kinda liked real insulated mugs that you reuse over and over again over the styrofoam junk anyways.
