I feel that at some point we might have to go back to those days. I know my wife barters with her Dr. At to some extent anyways. There are a few vendors who also barter for goods not sure about foods. Does this still appeal to some of you & what are your thought's on it?
Inefficient. People who do this are usually using it to evade taxes. Notice the term is evade, not avoid. Failure to declare barter income is a crime. If you are going to be a criminal, there are more lucrative crimes.

If one can trade goods I don't see how they are evading taxes, we all have to keep paying them in the end.

One of the reasons why I don't bother bartering with cash is because many people (whether it's doctors, plumbers, or wait staff) will not properly report their cash earnings.... which is evading taxes.
That being said, using something like paper checks is wasting paper when you can simply swipe a credit card as a greener alternative.
It really isn't necessary that you "see" the criminality of the transaction. The law does.
Trading goods is a crime? I think not, maybe to those idiots who are upset that they aren't making money off of it.
