Are their certain parts of the US where off the grid living is easier? If so where are they, some places most of us have not heard of? Why are these places good for off the grid living?
Hawaii. I know lots of people who get their water from catchment systems and have PV for power. It is super easy here because of the high rain fall (at least on the windward side) and the abundance of year around sun.
There are entire blocks in Manhattan that are off grid. You can do it anywhere.
On East Fifth Street in downtown Los Angeles also. Free food at several missions in the area, within walking distance of classical music concerts at Disney Hall. No utility bills to worry about. Where can you beat that sort of deal?
Have to check out who owns water rights. In some places you cannot keep the water off your own roof....Other spots like Southern Colorado have almost run out of water to draw from wells, cannot collect the river water, and must use cistern the fire dept fills up for you for a fee...The water delivery raises money for the city/county.
Ive learned two things so far. Off the grid living has many definitions for one thing. Secondly that water is important not just sun for power. I wonder why more don't consider SE Oklahoma where it rains and still gets a lot of sun. Low cost resources with good soil for ones own use?
