Default Green shower curtain

I was switching the shower curtain liner and, as I was smelling that new plastic off-gassing, I was wondering if there is a greener alternative to the plastic shower liner that is effective at keeping the water inside the shower. Any thoughts?

You might want to try a hemp shower curtain. We bought one last year and it was around $90, so expensive. Unfortunately it already ended up in the trash. If you live in a very dry climate it might work for you, but I found that it took a long time to dry and because of that, we started getting mold spots, so I had to wash it often which wasn't good for the fabric, in the end it started falling apart in only 6 months :-(. I think it would work fine for a shower that isn't used every day, but this did not work for us. Ikea sells plastic shower curtains that don't have the smell and are supposed to be more "green".

There are cloth ones as well or you could always go with the old glass, but that is dangerous.

I've got a white nylon liner that dries quickly and gets tossed in the wash about once a month.

I have a nice fabric one I bought for $19 at Ross. The weave is very tight and it repels water just as well as the plastic ones. Plus, it seems to dry better and has yet to have any soap scum build up or mold spots (been in use 4 months)

Great, I will buy one of the regular fabric ones next time. I was so disappointed when the hemp did not work well.

Smile Great shower curtain!

I totally know what you mean!

There is an awesome new product that I love, It is a zip off shower curtain liner by Wamsutta. It is 100% polyester - feels like fabric and doesn't smell. It zips off below the rings for washing so you don't have to keep buying new liners and filling the landfills with the old ones.

Only some Bed Bath and Beyond stores carry them right now (the naperville,IL store has it - their phone number is (630) 527.1909)

The Disney resort collection also sells a beautiful waffle weave white shower curtain that has the zip out liner attached. disneyresortcollection.com

I would strongly recommend this product!!!

I had a wonderful white 100% cotton shower curtain. It was almost like white canvas and it repelled the water, dried fast, and looked nice. I think after about TEN years of use the bottom edges started to rot a little bit but ten years is pretty good. I remember I got it from a mail order place for allergies and green living. It was something like the heavy shower curtains you sometimes find in a good hotel.

The plastic curtains are vile as far as I'm concerned--too much plastic in this world already and some of them have that.......smell.
