Let's hope it's large enough.

Every time we look at new cars we look at VW. Every time I walk off the lot in disgust because I don't fit. I'm not a giant or anything: 6'-2, 240 lbs. Granted I've got big shoulders and feet, but any car built for the American market should allow room for a size 12 shoe and slightly wider shoulders.

I noticed being cramped in the Jettas, and same platform (Golf, GTI)

the Passat fits me and my 6'-4" kids, and usually gets 52 mpg. It was just down to a half tank last night at 491 miles Took 9.6 gal to top it off. Unfortunately they only made these gems in 96 and 97, and they are getting tough to find. I looked at one last year that had 550,000 miles, still getting 50+ mpg on original engine and tranny. I had to put ball joints and bushings in mine to improve the tire wear (< $30 in parts) It should now be good for another 300k miles

I own a VW Beetle and find there is plenty of room for it being such a small car, lots of people comment on the amount or head room in the front seats. In Germany they also sold a small car, called Lupo, that I have not seen in the US, that gets 78 miles to the gallon. They ceased production in 2005, I think.

Ooooooh. I love Volkswagens! That one sure is purty.

Twin motors would be perfect -- my mileage is split almost half for city driving, and half for intercity driving. Sign me up!
