I'm doing my part to save water.
I save all my dirty dishes and once a week I put them in the bed of my truck and go through the car wash.
Wash, rinse, and forced air dry.
Gets the dishes clean plus I get my truck washed.
Next week I might throw the laundry in there too.
I skip the wax part.
Don't think I want my cereal bowls or shorts waxed.

I think it was in "Travels With Charlie" where Steinbeck related that he would toss his clothes in a bucket, add water and soap, put the lid on, toss it in the back of his truck, and drive down dirt roads to agitate and clean the clothes. My guess is that he, like many authors, played with words and images. A "washboard" road is a fun image to play with.

Sounds funny . . . .

but keep in mind that some carwashes recycle their grey water -- so it is not really potable water you may be dealing with -- could contain antifreeze, oil, heavy metals, gasoline, diesel, tire bits, roadway chunks, and just about anything else one could think of.

Bon Appétit!

Very true! But I would assume the OP would say they are recycling twice!

I did one better. I had my wife hang the clothes across the bed of the truck and lay all the dishes across the floor of the bed. She stayed in the bed and got her shower and clothes cleaned at the same time. She was clean and showered and ready to go to work. I dropped her off at work and came home and hung the clothes out to final dry. I put the dishes away.
Come to think of it, I've been waiting for my wife to come home from work and make dinner. She's late. Very late. I wonder where she is. Maybe working late.
