If you go to YouTybe and search / straw-bale house/ you will get 210 hits. My wife made an instructional video in 1999 to show people how to do it. (She was the videographer, not the builder).

Don't see what the breaking news is. Houses have been built this way and in numerous varieties of it, for hundreds of years, including the present. They tend to have a better insulation rating, stand up to the "test of time" and often allow for easier home-building by the actual homeowner.

It is too bad the builder has to fight 'city hall' because of antiquated building codes and fearful neighbors. Modern straw bale houses can be amazing! I am not sure I want to deal with uninformed building inspectors, permit hassles, and such. Too bad, what a great way to use an agricultural by product!

It's not the building inspector's fault. The problem with these alternative construction practices is the lack of design standards. In my community we have developed construction standards for stray bale homes - it was a lot of work and required some additional engineering and testing to confirm that design loads could be satisified.

Sometimes City Hall is correct.

It's a slow news day?
This qualifies as breaking news as well?

Sometimes City Hall is correct.

city hall is never correct. these bureaucrats stifle ingenuity, progress, development every step of the way. the sooner we understand that the market is pretty efficient at weeding out flawed engineering the better we'll be.
