Russia and China are the results of a policy designed to maximize the returns to the local bureaucrats without concern for the economy or the environment of most of the population. What has happened in these countries is an example of maximizing profit, as defined by the bureaucrats, at any cost. The same would happen, and did happen, in our country when the robber barons of industry were in charge. Look at some pictures of heavy industry in the 1890’s or the 1950’s for examples. Poisoning people is different from interfering with the esthetics or their recreation.
What I am proposing is a reasonable consideration for developing a resource at some cost to a recreational resource but not the complete elimination of recreation. To some the view of a wide open seascape of prairie is desirable and that view is marred by the installation of wind turbines. Generally, but not always, the people desiring the perfect view are not the owners. No one can own the sea and the prairie is already owned by the people trying to make a living there. Degrading, an arguable point, the view is less important, IMHO, than the energy gained by the rest of the society.
Thanks for the link to the Finn Nuclear plant. I’ll check it out.
