Hi
Moving to US from Northern UK-I was titilated by this thing about lack of clothes lines and restrictive covenants.
The people who we bought off in NC must have been quite eco conscious as we have one.Even in November on a sunny day clothes will dry well.
In the UK I didn't have a clothes dryer, unless you count the clothes line and clothes horse!
Everyone hangs clothes out here!
I couldn't use a clothes dryer on a warm sunny day-sinful

Re these "green" houses- in the US do you have anything equivalent to the SAP energy efficiency rating for homes that we have in the UK?

I guess in defense of those communities, I would say that city living is not for everyone, and even though it may be a light shade of green, it's still a step forward. However, I strongly support, and personally live, in areas which are extremely walkable.

Thanks again, and keep checking those walkscores!
Liked the website, except that I couldn't look at specifics without giving my details.
I wanted to ask what building materials the homes in Lennon Hills NC were built with?
Liked the semipervious concrete driveways, but wasn't quite sure exactly what the xeriscape was, although it sounded good.
Is it just the practice of using plants/grass that are natives and drought resistant and minimising lawned areas?
Seems like often people have huge amounts of lawned areas, and spend half their lives reseeding, aerating (clay soil where we are ) watering and complaining! I plan to get rid of most of our lawn-too much hassle. Would rather have drought resistant plants to look after!

Default Green Cities Initiatives

Hello, I saw a few posts about green living communities around the U.S. I wanted to tell you about the Eco Block Project, which is an initiative that started by Dr. Harrison Fraker, a professor of Architecture and Urban Design at UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design. The plan is to look at existing city neighborhoods, especially in lower income areas, and retrofit them with environmentally sustainable upgrades that are also cost-effective. This article on UniGuide describes the projects in more detail: The EcoBlock Project: Greening Existing Neighborhoods - https://www.uniguide.com/ecoblock-project/
