not to be a debby downer, but you guys notice how "ungreen" the planet green channel is? Instead of using all that materials, furniture, energy expenses and do the shows outside? Do the shows in a green house that is being used. Out of a house currently being lived in.... Is it more of a do what i say, not what i do?

One of the most "ungreen" things I've noticed about the channel is that it condones the destruction of perfectly good appliances, flooring, cabnetry, etc., before the usable end of their lives, just to replace them with so-called "green" products.

I have a home where the kitchen stove has been the very same one purchased in 1951. Ok, so it may not be as energy efficient as a newer energy-star rated stove but isn't it pretty dern green just by not having been replaced 3-4 times in nearly 60 yrs?

Same goes for kitchen cabinets and flooring. Same flooring (early laminate) and cabinets from when house was built in 1939. The laminate and linolium may or may not have asphestos in the backing (no worry as long as it is not broken or torn-up). However, isn't it more green to keep this (still more beautiful than what I could replace it with other than hardwood) rather than to have three or more different flooring products end up in a landfill over 70 yrs?

What about "Living with Ed" and Mr. Begley's obsession with CFL bulbs? First off, these bulb re-introduce mercury into our landfills (you know most wont make it to a haz-mat dump). And please explain to me how it is green to replace already manufactured and working lightbulbs with new ones? Shouldn't light bulbs be replaced when they burn out?

The only true "green" project I've seen on Planet Green was one from "Renovation Nation" where the family was harvesting timber to build their home from their own family farm, using horsepower from real horses and a lumbermill powered by their own pond/stream water, and old-fashoned hand-tools which required sweat equity rather than electricity to operate. It may not be a realistic goal for most homeowners wishing to build their own custom home but at least what they were doing was really "green" through and through.

When I started watching planet green 6-8 months ago I was really jazzed and fired up. But, once I started doing my research I found that their claims don't add up more than 50% of the time, and, there really isn't that much that it truely environmentally pure/renewable. Example: known depletion of the rainforests and the number of homeowners choosing Brazilian hardwood flooring on Planet Green shows.

Just my opinion. But the longer I watch Planet Green, the more I am aware that it is more about hype and politics and less about substance and truthful disclosure. I am a disappointed viewer with my eyes wide open.

Yeah, and I think that entire network really ought to be powered by a GYnormous hampster wheel that a staff could run around in vs being on the grid. Ed Begley could chase after them about it, what fun! heheheee

Lifelong, I'm with you about things having their natural lifespan subject. The consumer driven, new improved gotta have it stuff doesn't really seem compatible with what green should be about. My CFLs did replace old as they burnt out, and whatever odd spare bulbs I had laying around were donated to my neighbor who wasn't bothering with CFLs. That works too, doesn't it?

Grief about brazilian hardwood... I think that rates an email to them. I don't watch the channel. I got greener and turned off my TV. Nanny nanny boo boo I'm greener than you! LOL

I personally don't have several thousand or maybe a million dollars to renovate or build a "green" house and enjoy the lifestyle they insist on having.
Most of the shows on there have people staring in them that are more than willing to jump back to the wasteful ways ( usually easier) we all live in when their green ones don't pan out.
Kinda like al gore and the rock stars and actors of today- live like we say NOT like we do.
