It's better than letting them fend for themselves.
Really, if WE don't eat them, then what purpose is there to having them exist? Might as well kill them all off before giving up meat as a society. Because then they'll be better off.

Don't have to. I'm proud to be a speceisist. If it doesn't further our survival, it's not necessary.

quite to the contrary, it is the false belief generated from our ego that humans are seperate from & above other animals and the enviroment that will likely cause the end of human kind on earth.

If all we ate were vegetables, why should we have other animals? Some of them compete with us, others might prey on us. We've destroyed a few species--and lost nothing by their passing.

I'm a confirmed carnivore, and I'm well aware of humans' place in the overall circle of life. (For one thing, you don't see other animals trying to step out of their place in the food chain AND claiming that somehow makes them superior, as some vegetarians do, do you? I would never show such disrespect for the other creatures that share life with me as to do that!)
We are all poorer when a species is destroyed, because each and every species has their place in the overall design, and to say that one doesn't matter is like saying that pulling a loose thread in a knitted garment doesn't matter, even though it will ultimately destroy the garment. Unlike knitting, however, species come and go for a variety of reasons, and always have, and new species fill the vacancy in the ecosystem.
I see the "man is responsible for all the ills in the world and we're going to destroy it" or the counterpart "if man just becomes vegetarian and does everything else right according to my lights the world will be Saved" attitudes expressed here as no different, the exact same arrogance, in fact, as "man has dominance over the earth and all the creatures in it and they are here only for our use". Both grow out of the same impulse - to set us apart from creation and give us MUCH more power and importance in the overall scheme of things in our own minds than we actually have. BOTH set us apart from the other creatures, seeing us as "separate from and above other animals and the environment".

by your logic then, if a vastly technologically superior race came to earth and started harvesting & eating children, it would be ok because they would be higher on the food chain than humans.

you might gain some insight from this article:
Ari Solomon: Who You Callin' Vegangelical?
btw, you are omnivorous and not carnivorous.

No, because they would have to come HERE from somewhere else. Let them eat the humans on their own planet.
I don't believe in eating things that come from other countries.

And the real reason behind the post comes out...
You can't focus on factory farms and say "meat is not green" because it's a matter of methods of obtaining meat at issue not meat itself.
