BP's own investigation of oil rig explosion largely focuses on work done by other companies - chicagotribune.com

argh!!!

..."a new government report Tuesday showed workers at the federal agency that oversees offshore drilling accepted sports tickets, lunches and other gifts from oil and gas companies."

..."The other three areas of focus for the investigation involve the cementing and casing of the wellhead, which was Halliburton Inc.'s responsibility."

Lets not forget about the sex and drugs that the NY Times reported on last week!

When people talk about how solar, wind etc aren't "economically viable," they are not including the massive amount of tax support the oil industry gets from the US Military.

Does anybody truly believe we'd be in Iraq if they didn't have oil? It's not as if the 9/11 hijackers came from Iraq, they came Saudi Arabia!

I think it's important to know what we are talking about before pointing fingers. Just because something is reported, it doesn't make it a whole truth. The media will soak this story for it's last dime because that is what they do. If they can pull a political agenda out of it....all the better for them. So, we just have to be careful before making judgment calls.

The Coast Guard (once under DOD, now under Homeland Security) is totally capable of finding a solution if a solution can be found. They have incredible technology. I'm not a big Obama fan, but quite frankly, what in the world would he know about fixing an oil spill??? Our government isn't even real good at fixing the stuff they SHOULD know about.

It is a big mess and will probably end up being a major disaster for a very long time. Lots of people are going to loose their livelihood and the capability of taking care of their families. Unfortunately, these are the people who will fall through the cracks unless we demand they are taken care of first at BP's expense. Ultimately, they are responsible since they made the decision to continue a contract while knowing there were problems associated with this rig.

None, but it's where companies have proposed a pipeline:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghanistan_Oil_Pipeline

"The pipeline was expected to cost US$2.5 billion. However, due to political and security instability, this project was dismissed."

(I picked a good image in terms of clarity but can't vouch for the specific source's credibility - if you google Afghanistan oil pipeline you can dig deeper)
