Believe it or not, even Bill Maher is giving Obama flak over the oil spill.

The fail safe they had was a "dead man" switch, not sure exactly how it was supposed to be activated but it should have and it's entirely possible it did. One article I read speculated the BOP itself was damaged causing the failure. If that is the case then the extra switch would not have helped.

Obama has sent quite a few people down there already.
What I hate is folks sniping about the political end of it......I live in Florida, this has the potential kill off tourism if it hits our beaches.
A professor from the University of Florida has predicted that the slick will hit the Gulf stream, pass through the Florida straits, and go up the coast of Florida.
Can you imagine what that would do to the state, not to mention the wildlife?
Think on that for a while...........
You are right. I just saw that that NOAA had issued a not to be made public warning that the oil spill may reach the Miss, river and stop shipping. That the leak because it is coming from the main core has pressure so high that WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO STOP IT. If this happens most of the worlds oceans will be contaminated and be by far the worse disaster we have ever known... Its real

Default Everyone can help the clean-up.

There's an organization that is collecting clean hair, fur, feathers, and nylons to use for mats and "booms" to help the clean-up. Salons, schools, communities, veterinarians' offices, your Auntie Grizelda who doesn't know what to do with her old nylons--everyone--can chip in.

I live in Florida, but was raised on the banks of the Mississippi in Missouri.
Quite a few of my friends work on the boats on the river, there is already scuttlebutt going around about shutting down shipping on the Mississippi.
I am still having a hard time wrapping my mind around all the implications of this spill, it just keeps getting worse......

and for the people screaming "extremists!," you all have a short memory, and I suggest you read this in its entirety before it's too late, as the history of Standard Oil provides useful background info:

Gotta question, Chi......isnt BP primarily British owned?
Couldnt seizing BP be seen as an act of aggression towards Britain?
Just some thoughts that ran through my head as I read the links......
