The understatement of the millenium - they clearly should have had a plan in place to deal with this kind of incident before it happened.

Yeesh, my workplace has a bloody fire drill every 3 months, BP had nothing prepared for this - hell, what if something similar happens in a few months?

BEFORE. Yes, of course.

So they DIDN'T do that - even though they did have a few rudimentary safeguards in place.

What's amazing is that even now, over a month after the oil rig explosion, they are STILL doing essentially NOTHING. The heck!

On a side note, if GWB was still President, the media would be raising holy hell about his inactivity. But that's a different issue entirely...

I doubt that the media is doing even a fair job of reporting what going on in the oval office about this oil spill. That said, no news does NOT mean that the spill isn't being discussed. The last thing that American citizens need now is to take over the spill clean up and let BP off the hook. Military involvement would mean we take ownership of the spill much beyond the Coast Guard.

No, BP can't be let off the hook. But things need to get done right now. If BP can't get it together to clean it up as soon as possible, then somebody else has to step in and get it done. BP can be billed later.
