My wife and I are seriously considering the move to the Greensboro area. We are coming from south Florida (those who know the area understand why)and I'm wondering if it is a quality area to raise a family and maybe any tips on certain areas would be great. I have a 4 and 6 year old so schools and safety are of the utmost importance. Thank you in advance.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Greensboro is very safe - it has a small town feel and it is not hard to find rural areas right outside of the city.

Now, it is not a very exciting city..... but it is very safe!

Look into the northern areas of Guilford county/Southern Rockingham county -Summerfield, Oak Ridge, Stokesdale are the new and upcoming areas. Most homes have about an acre of land out this way. Horse and cow pastures are not hard to find!

Good Luck!

We sometimes get an inch or two a year. More some years. We get more ice than snow. About 2 or 3 ice storms each winter.

My parents are in SW Florida. I much prefer Greensboro to Ft Myers!

I'd suggest northwest Greensboro...anywhere off New Garden, Battleground, Lawndale, etc. even extending out to Summerfield or Oak Ridge area.

IMO schools here aren't very good anyway, although some of the magnet schools are pretty decent.

Good luck.
