Default relocating to Asheboro

I am currently in Florida looking to relocate to the Asheboro area. I would appreciate any information from anyone about that area. How are the winters up there? I have done a lot of research on the area and it seems like a very nice place to move to with my kids.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Robin

I think Asheboro is a nice place and would be a very good place to raise a family. Generally speaking, people there are good people in that they are nice and are family oriented. Like any place you will go, there are problems with drugs and as a result of that you will hear about a lot of breaking and enterings. I don't consider it any worse than any other similar place. I would not have a problem living there, in other words.

Winters there are no bear. Maybe one or two snowfalls per winter. In the past 9 years, there has been 2 major snowfalls of over 12" which is not normal at all! In the piedmont area of the state, you can have more icing than snow.

Employment is a problem like many other NC towns, with businesses closing and moving out of the country. I would be sure you have a job before moving. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions you may have. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the info it was very helpful. I guess need to consider the employment problem before I make a decision. Being a single parent that is very important. Thank you again for the reply.

Asheboro for the most part is still old school south. You will probably have to find a job out side of town because most in Asheboro pay $10ph. You will also have to drive else where to find something interesting to do. Modern life exists in Greensboro which is only 30mins away.

Asheboro and Randolph County is a nice place to live. Not a long commute to neighboring (larger counties) for jobs if needed or major entertainment. Tax rates are lower than in neighboring counties as well as housing and other living expenses. Don't know what kind of job you may be looking for, some businesses and industries in the county. Just do your research and maybe have a job lined up before moving... Once you get here, getting an affordable place to live is not very hard.

Ditto what Trailhead said! It is a beautiful area, quiet. Not at all like Florida, you'll have 4 seasons. But old school south "ain't all bad".

Default Not A Bad Place!!!

If you like a laid-back kind of atmosphere, then Asheboro is your kind of place. We have a top notch zoo here, plenty of restaurants, shopping, car sales, Richard Petty museum. The weather is great here. This past week the temperature was in the 70's. Asheboro is right in the middle of the state, so you are not far from the mountains on one side or the coast on the other side. Asheboro is not far from the metropolitan cities like Greensboro, Raleigh, & Charlotte. Any questions, let me know. I'll help as much as i can.

I agree Asheboro is a good place to live. The zoo is great! We have been living in Asheboro for 7 years and the only time it snowed was in 2000 when we was building our house, of course we had an ice storm couple years after that but that was it..it can get cold here, but nothing you can't deal with. People around here in the winter usually wear a light jacket or sweater. This week is suppose to be in the upper 40's to mid 50's light jacket weather. The town is slowly building into a big town. However the City of Asheboro is Dry.. meaning there is no Alcoholic sells here at all inside the city..You have to drive 10 mins to Randleman for any Alcohol. Unless you live in Randolph County then you can buy. That is the only set back of Asheboro..
I am not sure if I agree with the $10ph part..All depends on where you live in Asheboro. Most people travel to Greensboro, Winston or Raleigh for work. I live in the Dave's Mountain area and people here make lots more money than the $10ph. Price range in this area for homes can range from $230k up to $800k. And homes over by the zoo are $200k and up as well..but like I said it all depends on the area you pick in Asheboro. We are right in the middle of everything....25 mins south of Greensboro, 45-hour drive from Raleigh, hour-n-half drive to Charlotte, 3 hours from Asheville, 3-4 hours from NC beaches, 3 hours from Myrtle Beach. Hope you find what your looking for here.

Well Robin lol. Im gonna give you the truth, Asheboro City Schools are horrible. Recently at South Asheboro Middle School a child was caught before an attempt to hire people to kill there teachers. ABSOLUTLY TRUE. The school systems are horrible and over crowded. Kids are so mean here, and very involved with sex drugs an alcohol. Even at a young age. We are a dry county! Yes the Zoo is a nice attraction but I wouldnt move to the city part of Asheboro if I were you. Asheboro has no jobs and is overrun with mexicans. People are so rude here, but if ur lookin for a country town this is an ok place to be. The Zoo pkwy area is really nice a more upscale community but in a few years they are going to start contruction on a highway that is going to run right through there so goodbye to those nice neighborhoods. I live in southern Asheboro on the out skirts of Seagrove, its the country with pastures everywhere only ten minutes from the city. I love it out here, except I have to drive 12 minutes to the grociery store. But steer clear the city hope this helps.
