Moving to GSO soon with family (2 kids) and want a good family neighborhood with good schools. Homes in Friendly Acres area look nice but they go to Pearce Elem (ok?) Kernoodle MS (ok?) Western HS (not good, right?). Are there many kids in that area and where do most the kids around there go to school? Public or private?

Any oppinions on good family neighborhoods and schools appreciated. Looks to me the only good public highschools are NW and Northern and if you live in any other district those kids go private (ouch$$)?

Thanks,

Are you sure about Pearce? I thought FA was zoned for either Jefferson or Claxton, both of which are good elementary schools. Kernodle is a good middle school. Can't comment on Western HS but I've never heard anything bad about it.

Friendly Acres is a nice neighborhood. And you can find a wide range of homes, from older to much newer and more expensive. But some parts are part of an HOA. So keep an eye out for dues!

Happy hunting.

As a 2006 graduate of Western, I can tell you that it is a good school.

Northern and Northwest are not the only good public schools in Guilford County.

Grimsley is probably the best high school in the county, in fact.

Grimsley, along with NW is usually high on the Newsweek list, if you follow that kind of ranking.

I can't comment on the schools or 'family' neighborhood (Realtors are kind of useless that way due to NCREC rules & regs, but I do like Friendly Acres very much. It's hard to give advice on other neighborhoods without knowing more, but based on similar price points within Claxton / Kernodle / Western - Friendly Acres is probably your best bet. Best luck with the move!

We have had children at Claxton, Kernodle and Western and not a bad thing to say about any of them....

Happy house hunting....

Double check any address in Guilford county to make sure what school you are zoned for here: GCS Online (http://www.gcsnc.com/locator0809/streetsearch.aspx - broken link)

Also, it's not the NC Real Estate Commission regulations, it's the US Fair Housing rules.
