I may be repeating a thread (if so, please post a link), but what are the current best restaurants in Winston-Salem?

I'm moving down from Portland, ME soon, and we've got one of the country's top dining scenes. I'm hoping Winston will have some good options?

Click on the "Search this forum" box, and type in "Winston-Salem restaurants". You'll find lots of prior threads that may help you.

In general, I'd say Winston-Salem has a very good restaurant selection for a city its size, ranging from fine dining to great hot dogs served from an old red caboose. Whaddaya like?

I'm particularly interested in classic French and rustic Italian. Any good offerings?

This site has lots of info on Winston-Salem... Winston Salem, NC Events Guide - City of the Arts, Dining, Entertainment and Community Calendar in Winston Salem, Piedmont Triad, North Carolina

Click on "restaurants". I'm not too sure about French cuisine--I'm not aware of any exclusively French restaurants in the area, but I'm sure you'll find French dishes on some of the higher-end places like Bernardin's, Bleu (which is not exclusively French despite the name), or Noble's. For Italian, there are Paul's, Francesco's, Ciccione's, and Vincenzo's (among a few others) that all serve up a pretty decent meal.

I used to like Zevely House when I would visit, although I heard they became Bernardin's. How is the food there these days?

I haven't been to Bernardin's since they moved downtown, and I had only been to the other location a couple of times as it is one of the most expensive restaurants in town. From comments I hear (and confirmed by many online reviews), the food is consistently very good, but the service is spotty.

Yes, Zevely House was always very good. Bernardin's menu is a bit more upscale and pricier than Zevely House.

There are two really top-notch Mexican restaurantes in this part of the state. One is in Chapel Hill, the other is in Mebane.
