I was under the impression that all we needed was a signed sales contract in order to register our daughter in school (elementary school in Davidson County). But the registration paperwork asks for utility bills or similar documentation as proof of residency.
We're scheduled to close on the house on Sept. 17, and are hoping to start our daughter in school on Monday Sept. 13. I've arranged for utilities, but they all start on the 17th. I'm just trying to prepare for what to say if the administration office at the school balks at her starting on the 13th.
You should have no problem. Just explain your situation--it happens all the time.
The woman in the school office said they generally don't allow a child to attend school until they are actually living in the area. She said she had only heard of one instance, and that required approval "by the county" (whatever that means). She suggested calling the principal, so I left a voice mail with the principal; we'll see what she says.
I can't speak for Davidson County, so things may be different there. My wife is a teacher here in Forsyth Co., and she said if you have the paperwork showing you will be closing soon (i.e., a signed contract), then you can usually go ahead and register your child. Let me know what you find out from the principal, as I'm curious to see how they handle it there.
The job in High Point didn't work out, so we're not moving to the Triad after all.
So I don't know how they were going to handle the registration at school.
Sorry to hear things didn't work out. Good luck to you.
