Me and a buddy are driving to WS this weekend to visit my lil sis at Wake. She is only 19 so we will probably be partying without her on Saturday. What is the best bar or bar area to visit while were there. I like laid back hip bars, while my friend likes a club atmosphere. We both like cheap drinks, no cover, and beautiful women. Also, if there is a good bar that allows underage entry that would be great too, because I would like to party with my sister even though she's not 21.

Thanks,

Calvin

When you find this place, let me know!

Seriously, here's a list of just about every place you can go in WS: Hot Spots in Winston-Salem including Live Music - Piedmont Triad Community, the City of the Arts - Smitty's Notes

Check the links for details. Your sister will likely know where the college kids hang out.

Best bar, bar area, hip bars, club atmosphere - in W-S? You are kidding, right? Sorry, but what you're looking for doesn't exist. W-S is not even remotely like Chapel Hill, Raleigh or Charlotte.

Dang it, Highcotton, you caught me! I tried to fool this guy by linking a list of bars and clubs in Winston-Salem, then you come along and spoil the fun by telling him these places don't really exist. I was hoping he'd ride into town all thirsty and ready for action, then he'd pull into the parking lot of a non-existent building where the bar's supposed to be. That would be hilarious, wouldn't it?!?

Hip Bars?

No, thank god most people around here are content to sit with their friends and a cold beer. That usually enough. Although, got nothing against the beautiful women.

Those places are wanna-be bars...much like what you'd find in any bucolic place. There are no decent bars or clubs in W-S. The sidewalks roll up at sundown. If you want to see what real bars, bar areas and clubs look like go to NYC, LA, SF, Miami, Dallas, LV, Seattle, Chicago, Atlanta, Austin, etc. W-S is like Mayberry.

Ever wonder why Wake kids rarely stay in W-S after graduating? Because it's a great place for old people...and W-S is known for having very little for young adults to do.

As Wake kids will tell you; "If you are looking for a party school, go somewhere else." That sentiment applies to W-S too. Partying and bars does not exist...

I see the OP is from Knoxville, TN. Knoxville has a fair number of bars, clubs and nightlife. I suspect he and his friend will be disappointed finding anything to do in W-S.

calvinbama,

Here's a list of places for you, but I doubt you'll find them to be anything like what you're used to, or looking for. They are far from a bar scene type atmosphere. Friday and Saturday evening are the busiest times - any other evening and you may be the only one there.

Freddie B’s & Ziggy’s
First Street Draught House
West End Tap House
Burke Street Pub

PS - Watch out for cops that park nearby and look for people leaving so they can pull them over. It's kind of like a small hick-town mentality.

Thanks yall. We'll make the most of it either way. I hope sis knows where the party is. I appreciate the input. We'll probably check those places out. I'm from a small town, and I really hope WS is not like that w the cops and all. I live in an S.E.C. City so I might just be expecting too much

I suppose I should just let it go sometimes, but it's hard for me to resist pointing out when someone is making a fool of themselves, especially when leading innocent posters astray. First of all, the OP didn't ask about NYC, LA, SF, etc. I think he's well aware that Winston-Salem is, in fact, not any of those places, as anyone can plainly see on a map. The OP asked about Winston-Salem, so let's help answer his question rather than acting like a pompous azz.

Second, Ziggy's has been closed for almost four years. Third, there is no such place as the West End Tap House. We do have the West End Opera House AND the West End Tap Room--you might want to update your list of recommendations.

Fourth, for the OP, there are plenty of decent bars in Winston-Salem, and no, the police aren't out to get you unless you are indeed breaking the law. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Edit to add: Also for the OP, please ignore HC's quite ill-informed recommendations. The places he mentioned are okay, but there are some newer spots that might suit you better. Try NOMA, Recreation Billiards, Finnigan's Wake, Elliott's Revue, the Garage, and Tate's, among others. There's also usually a good crowd at Foothills Brewery.

Like I said - there is no bar area in W-S. And there's certainly no place for college kids to gather within walking distance of campus like most universities.
