Default Crime in Asheboro

I've heard that Asheboro has been having a problem with gangs, drugs, etc.

For anyone who is familiar with Asheboro, is this problem affecting the entire town, or is it just certain parts of Asheboro that should be avoided?

Thanks.

Default Southern Asheboro isn't bad

Check out neighborhoods south or west of 64. The Zoo Parkway area is nice, and there are some good neighborhoods off 49 and old Hwy 49.

I'd avoid north Asheboro unless you can be "on the mountain." That's the area off Spero Road west off 220. Those houses are typically $300K+, which I can't afford. If you can, you'll enjoy a large home with a large lot.

Good luck!

Crime rate in Asheboro and surrounding area is probably much less than in neighboring counties... everyone has their problems... like previous poster states-- avoid north asheboro area, but nice neighborhoods just outside of town that are low crime areas...

Yes, Asheboro has their problems like any other small town. There has been lots of gang activities recently reported on the news in Greensboro which is new for this area. I know Durham has had a problem for a few years.

I have been living here in Asheboro for the past 7 years.. as far as gangs I haven't seen any gangs yet in this area, however, they could be moving in and drugs of course every small town has there problems, but mostly in the slum areas of Asheboro. Depending on the area you choose to live in you will not be bothered with that type of crime.

Asheboro is in the middle of most everything.. 25 mins to GSO, hour from RDU, hour from CLT.. If you want to go on vacation to the beach or the mountains... your 3 hours from Myrtle Beach, 3 hours from Asheville.

Zoo Parkway Area is a nice are to live in but so is the Northern part of Asheboro.. The neighbor hood I live in has homes in price range of 200k+ to 800k+.. very nice community.
Hope this helps..

Default Thanks

Thanks for all your input so far. We're looking to buy a house in Asheboro next spring, on a large piece of property (3 to 5 acres).

I had originally been told by someone that Asheboro doesn't have any "unsafe areas", but recently I'd been hearing info to the contrary. So I thought I'd post here to find out.

We'll be visiting Asheboro next winter to take a look around for ourselves, but I wanted to get a little info ahead of time to know which parts of town we shouldn't even bother checking out.

Again, thanks.

Ive lived in Asheboro all my life. I have never really had any problems with crime, but Ive always lived around the zoo park way area. Im only just out of high school. There is a lot of drugs and drugs in the county, but its easily avoidable. There is a lot of gang activity at the high school, but it is mostly between the hispanics. Someone said avoid north asheboro unless its the mountain and thats true. Some places (like the Hill) are places to avoid. I have 2 friends who live there. They see crackheads walking the streets all the time and people getting jumped and forced into cars (drug reasons). For the most part its pretty safe, but like most of the 18 year olds who live here, I want to get out. My family is moving soon so that won't be a problem

Question What about Randleman/Level Cross area?

Hello mj949,
Have you considered the Randleman/Level Cross or northeastern Randolph county area? A new high school (Providence Grove)will be opening for this area in the 2008/2009 school year. It's peaceful, yet convenient to both Asheboro and Greensboro (20-25 minutes either one). This is one of those close knit, small town areas where through church, school and sports you get to know everyone in your community. Good Luck!

Default Thanks For The Info

My Family And I Are Also Relocating To The Greensboro/winston Salem Area(from Arizona)--- I Read All The Info Given On Asheboro- Wow - What An Eye Opener---- We Also Had Looked At 'nice Looking' Homes With Acreage In Areas Around Asheboro/sophia/etc. We Have Not Yet Visited The Area To Check It Out- We Are Just In The Beginning Stages--- But I Appreciate The Info---and Thanks For The Info By Previous Poster About The High School Issues-- I Truly Misjudged It For The Completely Quiet /peaceful Looking Area That I See In Pictures. Thanks All.
