Regarding the city (or county) water provided to residences in Winston-Salem, could anyone tell me the source or sources of the water?

Would it be the Belews Creek lake?

Yep. The intake is located about a mile downstream from the sewage treatment plant, in compliance with the new sustainability initiatives.

Actually both the Yadkin River and Salem Lake provide our water:

Also Salem Lake, though, not right now as they are replacing the 90 year old dam.

Okay; I'm going to assume that the "downstream from the sewage treatment plant" was a joke (funny, too).

Does anyone know where the city's intake is, with respect to everything else on the lake? I've looked but haven't found.

Have you ever SEEN the Yadkin river? It really shocked me that our water could come from it.

Another shocking thing for us transplants!! I was ready to find a beautiful, crystal blue lake or swimming hole and instead I found rusty red muck! I realize it is just natural sediment from the red clay dirt, but it is still a bit shocking to see if you are not accustomed to it.
