Default Health Insurance

My hubby and I will be moving to Greensboro very soon. Our new employer does not offer group health insurance, so we need to purchase private health insurance. Does anyone have a recommendation? I'm wondering if I should work through a broker or if this is something I can handle on my own. Which companies are the major players in the Greensboro market? I grabbed a couple of preliminary quotes online from BCBS and United, but it's like comparing apples and turnips...at least with the language. Any suggestions?

I have held a private insurance policy for 8 years. I have BCBS with a high deductible and have compared other companies' policies with BCBS. I have not found anything less expensive for comparable coverage. I have talked to a few ins brokers I have met through my work and they agree with my assessment.

I don't think it is necessary to go through a broker.

I would have to second flipster... I had BCBS for about 5 years as I worked for a small insurance office that did not offer group health insurance. My boss had a life & health license, and to his knowledge, BCBS could not be beat on the individual market. Also, BCBS is widely accepted among doctors in the area.

I am in California and we are getting ready to move to NC. I work in the insurance business and I would definitely recommending getting a broker. I know that out here, if you dont have a broker and you have any claims issues down the road, there is NO ONE to help you out. I work for one of the Blues and I am sure that they are all the same way. A broker does not cost you anything extra, you pay the same premium as anyone else.

Mary, how does your boss do out there selling health insurance? I am thinking about getting into that once I move but want to see how the market is out there. Let me know!
