I am contemplating a job offer from a corporation in the Triad area. We would like to possibly live in a smaller city. Where would you recommend? We have no kids, so schools are of no concern to us.

"Smaller" is very subjective. I consider Winston a small city, at 230k or so people.
What fits your idea of a smaller city? Any examples?

Also Triad is W/S-G'Boro and High Point-which city is the job closest to?

I live in N. Davidson County, south of Winston-Salem. Around W/S you have Clemmons or Lewisville to the West. Rural Hall to the north. Kernersville to the East (towards G'Boro). Then there is a very small town called Welcome abut 10 miles south of me.

I don't know HP or GB too well.

I would suggest moving to a suburb of Greensboro, such as Summerville and Oak Ridge. High Point and Winston are no good compared to Greensboro

What is the name of the company? Or location would be a big help. Summerfield/Oak Ridge is a jump if you are working on the south side of High Point. Parts of what is called High Point (HP) is really touching Greensboro near the Airport area. You will get to run the 68 Traffic Jam. The road is two lanes from Oak Ridge to the Airport Area. Bad weather (snow /ice) or anything that will stop traffic. You are in gridlock big time. Not many short cuts.

You could look at Archdale area. It is on the eastern side of HP.

I'm new here, and this is my first post, but don't underestimate the power of schools whether you have kids or not. Good schools mean committed homeowners who will live there longer and push for higher standards of living, ie parks, greenways, bike trails, restaurants, shopping, etc. SEEK OUT good schools and the rest will follow! Long-term homeowners also usually means people who care about the condition of their houses which insulates your property's value! I'm saying all this b/c we've learned from experience -- Although we bought at the height of the market, we bought in the best school zone in W-S and will actually break even on our home sale. If we had bought in ANY OTHER zone we'd be paying someone to buy our house!

All that said, many suburbs of W-S, HP, and Gsbo, have similar 'feels'. It's a matter of what amenities you're looking for, like whether you do a certain martial art, or would like to live on a bike path, or want to be near the farmers market, or have great restaurants within 5minutes, and so on.

My wife and I relocated to Greensboro six years ago it is a growing town with a small town feel and good house prices, with lower cost of living.
good parks system for biking hiking fishing boating
good theather in the town
concerts at the colliseum
and a growth of farm to fork restraunts if your a foodie
Charlotte and Raleigh are simillar just more traffic because of the research triangle park nass car and the football and basketball teams.
Hope this helps
