We will be moving to Greensboro at the end of this summer for my husband's new job. We're not familiar with the city and would like some feedback on how safe the city is. We will be starting our home search in a week. Our range will be $250K - $350K and want to move into a safe, family friendly neighborhood with good schools. We have a 10th grader, 5th grader, and kindergartener. Our oldest is a bball and vball player and we'd like her to be enrolled into a good school with a great athletic program. Our middle child is gifted and needs to be in a top notch gifted program. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks

As with any other city Greensboro has it's high crime areas which are generally pocketed on the east side of the city. Search around this forum and you'll find more info.

In that price range, you can find a very nice house in one of many safe neighborhoods. I don't know much about the schools, though. Greensboro's 2009 crime maps are here: Crime Maps (http://www.greensboro-nc.gov/departments/Police/Statistics/crimemaps.htm - broken link) That might be helpful to look at as you look at home listings.

not too bad (has a few tough areas). Just be careful and aware like you would be anywhere else.

It's pretty safe, in that price range you should be able to live in a very safe area. You'll quickly find out which areas to avoid just by driving through the city.

Do you want to be in the city limits of Greensboro, or the suburbs? Crime rates and school quality will vary greatly depending on where you are looking to be.
