Does anyone know anything about Answorth Apartments on West 6th street? Or this area of town? I am moving from Raleigh and nobody seems to know anything about these. I found a posting on craigstlist and am trying to do my research. There aren't any ratings online and it's making me feel uneasy about signing a lease. They're cheap and seem to be grad students. Anyone??

Never heard of them. Which town are you talking about?

Sorry - they're in downtown Winston.. around the West End area... which I have done some research on - I'm still just unsure about these apartments.

On the end there. Sixth street around 1st and west end is ok. But there are pockets. An address would be great.

The only address I know of is West 6th street, winston salem 27101. It's between N broad and Marshall. It backs up to West End Blvd. Does that help?

Okay, I know the area you're talking about. There's a large high-rise building on 6th St. that's an elderly low-income housing facility. That's the only building on 6th, but there are some apartments behind this facility on West End Blvd.--perhaps those are the ones you're talking about? If so, it's right on the edge as 72 said. It's a fantastic location, within easy walking distance to downtown 4th St., Hanes Park/Reynolda Rd., and the 6th St. Arts District. But just down the hill on University Pkwy the more seedy area begins, with housing projects and more than its fair share of crime. The good news is that the main city police station sits right between the two, and there's a large open area and the busy University Pkwy to provide separation. I really think the area is fine as long as you take the normal precautions. There are lots of students in that area, and it is cheaper. Some of the houses are run down (it's a very old area of town), but there are some really interesting houses with beautiful architecture as you head west on West End Blvd. You can use google street view to get an idea of what it's like.

Thanks for the insightful post! This is the area I am referring to - I saw the high-rise elderly facility as I passed it on the right. I got a good feel for the West End section of it.. I just wasn't sure of the proximity of the crime-ridden areas. Thanks again!
