OK, y'all... This may seem like small beans, but to someone who has never lived there, these are true issues/questions.

We are headed to the Winston-Salem and surrounding areas.....

Ticks- How bad really are the ticks? Is this something that I have never had to deal with out here in the Pacific Northwest. Do you have to treat your yard? What do they look like? How will I spot them? What happens if I don't catch them? How do I get them out? (2 dogs and 2 kids!!)

Snakes- Any of them poisonous? Is it true that I am going to come home and have them all over my porch?

Fireflies- Do you have them in NC?

Driver's license/tags- How soon do I need to transfer them over? What is the cost there?

Utilities- What is the average cost for a 3 bedroom home?

Sports- Other than NASCAR, what teams are we rooting for? Red Sox? Panthers/Patriots? Although, I'll always be a true SEATTLE MARINERS/SEAHAWK fan!!

Thank you all!!

I do know as far as sports go most natives cheer for college teams. Being in the Winston Salem area being a Wake Forest fan could probably make you fit in the most. I think your other questions could be best answered by someone else. Welcome to NC!

Of the 37 species of snakes throughout North Carolina, only six are venomous:

Copperhead (found throughout NC)
Canebrake Rattlesnake (found throughout NC)
Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake (found in southeastern NC)
Pigmy Rattlesnake (found in southeastern NC)
Cottonmouth or Water Moccasin (found in wetland areas in the eastern half of NC)
Coral Snake (the rarest, found in the south and southeastern areas of NC)

So you decided to make it out toward us, good for you.
Sports? College sports are huge here, the Winston Salem area is really split up in terms of teams. Most do root for Wake Forest but there are a lot of UNC Tar Heel fans here which rightfully so. You have these college teams to root for out of the ACC, UNC, NCSTATE, DUKE, and WEAK FOREST, oopps, I meant WAKE FOREST.

In all the years I have lived in this area I have only seen one snake in person and it was a little black snake which I guess was a garden snake. I have never found a tick on my dog in 3 years, that may just be out of luck.
