All I can say is props to Forsyth County for having the BEST road system in NC. It has more Interstates/Highways than any county in NC...

I-40
Bus I-40
52
311
421.....all the above are 4 lane Interstates/Highways

Makes getting anywhere a breeze. I live in Advance and can get to downtown Winston-Salem in 15 min & downtown Greensboro in 45 min. Use to take me 1hr 15 min to go about 17mi from Ballantyne to Uptown Charlotte on a good day (interstate all the way).

Love the Triad so far.

You obivously haven't hit Bus 40 or 52 during rush hour(s). The ramps on those two are horrendously short and accidents can jam both up for miles. Keep in mind you are comparing apples to oranges, you have to combine Winston & Greensboro to get close to the population of Charlotte.

Coming from Advance he shouldn't be *too* affected by them anyway
But wow... give the guy a month to learn the bad news

One thing I like about the Triad (been here 4 months so far!) is the relative lack of traffic. Fortunately, I only have to travel Stratford Rd, I-40, and Hwy 109 to get to/from work. The only issue is around the mall. The traffic seems to be a LOT lighter here overall than in the Triangle.

Figured I would give him a head's up for when he hit the traffic wrong one day and thought WTH!

Relatively speaking road improvements have kept up or outpaced traffic volume, but there are trouble areas just like any other city.

Fixed. It does get crazy sometimes, but it's usually over in 15 minutes.

And here's fair warning--whatever you do, stay away from Hanes Mall Blvd. from now until after Christmas!

Yeah, Bus-40 at rush hour (think 5pm - 5:40pm) can be a bear, but as long as no accidents occur, it moves. But I'll second or third the keeping away from Hanes Mall Rd...Learn where you want to go and how get there while spending the least amount of time on that road (and S Stratford) as possible). But generally speaking, the traffic or lack there of around here is very nice.

Default Give the rookies a break

They have not seen the whole story. Let's recap.....
1. Busing put a lot of buses on the highway at that time they did only 35. Buses from the West end of the county coming to the East side to balance the races.
2. There was only 52 and I-40 (now business 40) Did not have that "new" I-40
3. RJR and Hanes were in full swing 24/7.
4. The big rig traffic was huge. Trucking Terminals in Kernersville.
5. Hwy 52 ended at Midway
6. You had Strohs Brewery South end of 52
7. Had the Old Hawthorne curve at Baptist. Which was a turned over big rig about once a week it seemed.
8. The on ramp to go East on 40 was good for a flipped rig once a month.
9. The dividers on 52 & 40 were center islands with metal guard rails. A car or truck would find it's way from one side to the other.

Oh there were more little things here and there. Compared to today easy is not the word. But if you want a challenge. Go from Hanes Mall area to the North-West side say Reynolda and Shattalon Drive area.

I work from home so I am BLESSED that I don't have to commute here...and rush hour dead stops on I-485 in South Charlotte for miles & miles from 3pm - 7pm (Mon-Fri)...so I think traffic here is no problem. Even if you added the traffic in Winston-Salem & Greensboro...you would come no where near the traffic in Charlotte (Thank GOD). I was just saying that we are BLESSED with all the highways in Forsyth County. I am giving a compliment to this area...I LOVE it here so far.

^ Agreed. We moved here from Charlotte almost 20 years ago, and it took some adjusting. We'd show up to places about 30 minutes early because we were so used to battling Charlotte traffic. It took a while for it to sink in that we can get just about anywhere in 15 minutes or so!
