Does anyone commute from Kernersville to the RTP area (Morrisville)? Would be interested in hearing any experiences or how long it would take (Google maps says about 90 minutes, would this be accurate?).
I made a similar commute for about six months (Oak Ridge to RTP-Moore Dr). It took about 1hr and 20min. I typically took the 85 split to the Durham Freeway, but occasionally took 40 just to have a different drive. This was in 2010, prior to the RTP toll roads. My biggest issue was driving into the sun in the morning and driving into the sun again in the evening.
I drive from Burlington to downtown Durham and I almost never have any problems. However, since I have to be at work by 5:30 a.m. I never see much traffic or the sun for that matter. I agree with taking 85 to the Durham Freeway if at all possible as the volume isn't as heavy as 40 during the morning rush hour(s).
Several years ago I made the commute from the Friendly Center area of GSO to Morrisville (Globe Road area). This can be done in 60 minutes if you use the accelerator to your advantage. I recall my biggest problem was actually getting through GSO. Traveling east from K-ville through GSO on 40 could be an issue depending on when you go through. Hope you are driving something fuel efficient.
Thanks for the info, Burlington is somewhere we are considering should a/ I need to make the commute and b/ it becomes too much of a chore.
In the short term we'll probably be moving to Greensboro, around Bryan Blvd/Battleground area, so 60 minutes is also good to know.
Cheers,
Bob.
