I am just over 50,semi retired with two college age kids. I miss the 4 seasons but don't long for the long winters of mi. Why should I move from Fl to the Triad area as opposed to the other areas of NC? Thanks

Why not?
Anything anyone is going to give reason can be found nearly everywhere else. The question is what are your preferences?

Why should I move from Fl?
Then don't.
I'd say that you should wait a couple years until after your two kids are done with college...
then stay in FL and buy a (modest?) summer place farther north.

Can't say really.
The reason to move somewhere (anywhere) for 90% of the world is about what they do to earn an income
and the expectation (or better the confirmation) that it can happen in the new place.

For me... it was about having a decent sized metro area (with all the amenities and services
which accrue to such size) in reasonable proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway

Maybe you should come up and visit for a while?
See for yourself.

I like Greensboro and Winston Salem for the fact that they offer much of what others find appealing in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill or Charlotte without the higher cost of living or level of traffic/congestion.

Default something for everyone

Winston-Salem area has a good balance of seasons; Winters aren't too long, Spring and Fall are just right, etc. Also, there's something for everybody because W-S offers a variety of attractions to all age groups without the big-city prices you'd find in cities like New York and Chicago.
