It is a BEAUTIFUL city. We relocated to the W-S area 6 months ago after visiting Greensboro, High Point & Winston-Salem extensively and doing research.

Winston-Salem beat the other cities (IMO) hands down...and we moved here from Charlotte.

Definately the prettiest city in the Triad...once again...IMO.

In addition to the West End, Washington Park (south of Old Salem), Ardmore, West Highlands, and Buena Vista are also close in walkable neighborhoods.

Charlotte2Advance, I can see the huge differences between the two cities, yet W-S has nearly everything one would need. You must be breathing much easier since leaving Charlotte.

Thanks wsnc62. I will explore those communities. I like little villages.

Anyone live/know anyone living in Gallery Lofts? I'm about to take a look at them. I'm scoping out downtown towards Whole Foods area for urban/semi-urban living. Thank ya!

W-S, tarnished for years by its link to tobacco is really a gem. A downtown that has reinvented itself, several great colleges, and centrally located.

LLN, just to nitpick a bit, I don't think that W-S has been "tarnished" much at all. Tobacco money did a lot of great things for this community, such as providing substantial support for the arts community, bringing Wake Forest University to W-S, making the city a banking center, and providing high-paying jobs for thousands. I think the only tarnish would come from people who don't support/like tobacco use (nothing wrong with that--I'm a non-smoker too). But I don't see any negative impact to the city itself.

But I do agree with you about the "gem" part!

On the question of Gallery Lofts, I toured them. I was pleased with the finishes but was saddened to see that they were so walled-in (not really classic lofts). And there were lots of dogs. I enjoy them, but as one who doesn't have a dog I fear the noise living in such a large building with so many. But overall, nice place.

And I have found some part-time work in the Art's District and am happy about it. I'll continue with my business development plans from that base. Lovely little downtown! Thanks for all input.

We miss Charlotte immensely but we are only 1hr from Uptown (non rush hr...lol) but love the slower pace & no traffic any where in the Triad. Planning on spending 6 months in Bermuda Run, NC & 6 months in FL and you know which season where.

Maybe LLN meant in the way of patina to copper, kind of character.
