Default Moving to Greensboro with kids - Need Help!!

We are relocating July 1 to the Greensboro area from Connecticut due to a job transfer. My husband will be working just south of Piedmont airport. We have two children ages 8 and 3 and are looking for a great area within 30 minutes commuting time. We need excellent schools (of course), low crime (again, of course), family friendly neighborhoods/towns with amenities for all, especially the kids (sports, etc).

Where should we look? What do you like/love/hate about certain areas? We will be renting for a year prior to purchasing and are looking for 3 bedrooms (homes, apts, townhouses) in the 1200-1600 range.

Your help is appreciated!!!

excellent schools, low crime, family friendly, amenities... kids (sports, etc).
Where should we look?
Find a map of the Triad area... then throw a dart at it.
You'll find what you want there and be fine.

Consider looking at the Lake Jeannette area. Southern Shores. Great folks here, celebrating holidays, riding bikes, walking dogs, etc. We really love it here - live nearby in North Hills. The schools are good. Our daughter goes to Jesse Wharton Elementary (home of the Giraffes!). Another great elementary school is Claxton. Check out greatschools.net. and GCSNC.com. I hope this helps. There are lots of lovely, family oriented neighborhoods. I'm happy to help answer any questions!

You might be interested in Kernersville in Forsyth County. It in close proximity to the airport area and fits all of the criteria you mentioned.

In addition, it is the "Heart of the Triad" so is pretty much equidistant from Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High Point.

We've been here for almost a year now and are starting to look at houses. Schools have become more important to us since we'll have a kid starting school next year. From our research (limited to the Greensboro area), I'd say north of the airport seems to be a decent location as far as schools and crime/family friendliness goes. I would also look in the SW Greensboro/Northern High Point area. So areas between Adams Farm west to about Eastchester Dr. Schools seem to be real hit or miss around here. And there are some schools that are very low performing from what I've seen.

For Guilford County you can go to this web page:

GCS Online

Put in the address you are looking at and it will give you the school it feeds in to.

From the areas we have looked at, the best elementary schools appear to be: Millis Road, Oak Ridge, Morehead, Pearce, Pilot, Colfax, Florance, and Southwest. There may be others in other parts of Guilford County, or out by Kernersville or Winston-Salem, but these are the top schools where we've looked in western Greensboro.
