Hello Everyone:

I actually live in Puerto Rico but I plan to move to Greensboro, NC area in the next 4 to 6 months, and am looking for an affordable, family friendly, pet friendly, good schools neighborhood, etc. I'm an accountant and my husband is in health insurance industry and we are looking for a job. We know the job market is tight but we want to leave PR as soon as we can, the things are getting worse here, the crime rate is so high, poor life quality, rude and reckless people everywere, the school system is a disaster, this is not the Puerto Rico I grew up anymore . We have one baby and don't wan't to raised him in that conditions. We sold our house (this is a miracle in this economy) and we are saving as much as we can.

My husband want to move South Florida (Boca Raton) because his brother lives there, but I don't. SFlorida It's so overrated and I'm looking for more life quality. If anyone have any recommendations I would be grateful.

Thanks

1) Don't move before you have at least one GOOD job secured.
2) Plan to rent for the first year or two as you get acclimated.
3) When you know where the job is and how much budget you can manage... look for rentals nearby.

Good luck.

I moved almost a year ago to Greensboro, originally from Flordia but before that Cidra P.R. As the last person recommended it is good for at least one of you to have a job before you move over here. Stay away from anything close to O Henry BLVD if you are looking to rent. I live around the market street area. Friendly area is good too but more pricey. Apartment ratings.com is a good place to get apartment reviews and info on apartements. Use 27407 zipcode. A friend of mine lives in a place called Empire Crossings and says its pretty good and it is close to many things. Florida is definitely more latin oriented like Orlando, Tampa and Kissimmie, but jobs in FL are also scarce. My husband was unemployed for a year until we were fortunate enough to find something here. It would be easier for you to sell your vehicles in PR and buy something here. Be prepared to pay about 200 dollars if you do come with a vehicle from PR per vehicle. The tag and the one time highway tax is pricey. NC is beautiful and very peaceful. If you have any other questions post back and good luck.

Hi Maida,

Thank You so much for your advice. Actually we are actively looking for a job, and selling everything (cars, furniture, etc). We are going to rent before buying. I applied to varius job offers, and some recruiters call me, but when they see that I'm from PR they told me that they are looking for someone locally. I do not expect from them to pay the relocation, I just want a job. I feel stuck.

Don't give up. It took my husband almost a year before he got a job. They didn't pay for relocation eigther. Just write it on your resume that you are willing to relocate at your expense. Maybee that will motivate recruiters more. But keep at it the right job will come!

Maida
