A historic downtown Winston-Salem building that is planned to be the home of a new Mast General Store outpost received $1.3 million in incentives from city council. The vote was a departure for the city, which usually does not grant incentives for retail projects.
Me either, I mean I remember the store front passing through Boone but never knew much on it.
Apparently they been around since 1883 starting in Valle Crusis, North Carolina, now they have stores in Boone, Asheville, Waynesville, Knoxville, Greenville SC and Columbia.
I love supporting North Carolina companies and seem like an interesting store and the type of store it is, this will fit perfect in location they are seeking in Winston Salem.
You know, the orig store, or the old one at least in Valle Crucis is/was pretty cool.
Now that the brand is spreading...well I don't get it. I don't think the original attraction was what you could get there, but that it was there "like it used to be." All the new incarnations are not like they used to be...since they were not there to begin with.
Maybe I am over thinking this, but it seems so shallow. I don't know, I guess that is why I am not rich.

The Banner Elk location is kind of nifty, but until this article I wasn't aware it is a small chain. As LLN said the original is a throwback.
The one in Boone is much loved and used by the community. Y'all will love it I'm sure.
