I recently visited Winston-Salem and Greensboro and I liked most of what I saw. I will say the the people in Greensboro did not seem as friendly or maybe it was my imagination. Greensboro seemed to be more urban. Is Winston-Salem a safer city than Greensboro? Also, how does the night-life compare between the two cities. Can someone who has lived and/or worked in both cities give me some information on the main differences between the two cities. Is one city more culturally/racially diverse than the other? Any and all information would be great.

To be perfectly honest it is pretty much a toss up so go with the one you feel most comfortable with. Since there are no walls nothing will stop you from traveling from one to the other.

I was looking through some material from UNCSA in Winston-Salem. While their offerings in December are focused on The Nutcracker, in February there are 17 separate events. That in itself is a lot to do.

Good luck!

They couldn't be more identical.
They both have bad crime, though.

Identical???? They're not worlds apart by any means, but they definitely aren't identical; each has its own flavor. Both are college towns, but I'd say Greensboro has a livelier nightlife scene and appears to skew younger while Winston-Salem is more historic, traditionally urban, and artsy.

Thanks to all who responded. Does anyone know which areas in both cities have higher crime rates?

I would not say that Greensboro is more urban. Greensboro is a suburban city. Winston Salem wins hands down if you are looking for urban. I have lived in both cities and I would equate them to being just about the same.
