Just wanted to note that one should look deeper than just the Tax Foundation rankings number to get a clear picture. For example, while Virginia at 30 would appear to be much better than NC at 17, the actual difference is only .66 (9.25% vs. 9.91%). In fact, the difference between #16 (Oregon) and #40 (Arizona) is only one and a half percentage points. So for most states, overall tax burden would not appear to be a significant factor in deciding where to live, unless you have special tax circumstances that could make certain states more attractive.
