More and more churches are blesses same-sex marriages, and churches in denominations that do not allow it, are working to change such policies by similar actions across the nation. The UMC in the U.S. is rather progressive on this issue, but the global UMC is very conservative and therefore keeping the denomination from moving forward on this issue.

Right now it is one church banning all marriages. But that church is doing something that no one else is doing, and is getting attention. Now, not only is it making headlines, but it may garner other churches to stand with them. One church can't get the government's attention, but a number of churches can. I applaud them for having the courage to point out the hypocrisy. It is no more fair for them to say "I CAN have something, but you can't" than to say "If I can't have it you can't either"..

I wouldn't hold my breathe on seeing the other churches support this.

The state's constitution was amended around 10 months ago. Has anyone filed a lawsuit here yet?

I would just about bet the % of churches who have supported this move by the UMC pales in comparison to the % of churches who do not support the UMC's move to ban all marriage until gay marriage is legal.

I definitely would be shocked if the majority of local churches would support the UMC.

UMC is not the progressive denominations. In fact, of the major historic mainline denominations, it is the most conservative. The United Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and Episcopal USA are much more liberal than the UMC. The only other mainline denomination that is even close to the UMC in conservatism is the AMerican Baptist denomination.
