Crews for the N.C. Department of Transportation should complete work in May on the final 8-mile segment of what’s commonly referred to as the U.S. 311 bypass. The section in northern Randolph County will link the expressway from the Cedar Square Road interchange in Glenola to U.S. 220 north of Asheboro. The new segment of U.S. 311 will complete a four-lane roadway — without the interruption of traffic signals — from Interstate 40 in Winston-Salem to U.S. 220 in Randolph County.

I couldn't find exact completion date but I am glad they are referring to it as 311 bypass.
I figure they would call it I 74 or future 74.

It will always be. New 311 to me and 220 in Asheboro.

They may refer to it also as Future 74. As we know, it will be a long time before I74 is a true interstate from the Midwest to South Carolina.

I travel that route frequently, so I'll be a happy camper when the last leg is opened.

It will also make it easier to get from Winston-Salem to the SC Coast.

I wonder when it opens. May will be over in less than three weeks.

I just drove through there yesterday. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like they still have to put down the final layer of asphalt. I hope they get it done soon.

The last segment of U.S. 311 in northern Randolph County is scheduled to open Friday morning, completing a road construction odyssey that covers 50 years.

The final section of the expressway will open to traffic following a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony, said DOT spokesman Steve Abbott. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. along a portion of the new expressway.
