My Husband and I are looking into relocating to Greensboro, NC. As a mom of four I want to find the best area with the good schools and good neighborhood. I know hard bargain to ask for as some places have one or two good schools and the rest not so great which is why I ask for opinions. From the research I've done so far it seems that Oakridge Elementary, Northwest Guilford Middle and High are the best bets; but I am very interested to know if this is true or are there other goods ones that are together as these three. Also we love to explore and be outdoors any recommendations on places? Thanks to all who read and respond.

I can't speak for the elementary and middle schools, but Grimsley, Page, and Southwest are also pretty decent high schools (along with Northwest, as you mentioned). If you're interested in a map of the school districts, Guilford County Schools has posted them online (School Assignment Locator). You can also get more info about the schools by clicking on the "School Report Cards" link on the left side of the page.

Hi Mama-
Northern Guilford Elem, Middle and High are also very good.
The problem with Greensboro are the Middle Schools. Kernodle Middle School is one of the best in the county but it also divides in half when feeding into the high schools. Half of the students go to Northwest and the other half go to Western.
Guilford County also has some of the best trails in the area.
Hiking and biking trails are everywhere:
Guilford County, North Carolina - Trail Resources
There is also a nice lake system for kayaking/fishing (Lake Higgins/Brandt)
We have a National Park here in town also - Guilford Courthouse National Battlefield Site - it has a lot of history and trails that connect to trails to the north (around the lakes and Bur-Mil Park) and to the south (Country Park).
There are plenty of outdoor activities!

Greensboro is about 3 hours from Damascus Virginia, a terminus of the Virginia Creeper Trail. The segment I love is about 25 miles pretty much downhill into the town of Damascus. My daughters did it easily at 6 and 8 so it is not challenging. Some go up the trail. I would call that challenging. If you like outdoors and hiking and stuff, you will go crazy on the Creeper. You can take your own bikes, or rent them there, with shuttles to the top. It is absolutely perfect.
