1. You should be able to get more home for your money in Reidsville, and it is more rural.
2. Kernersville has a nice area, but is growing and will have more access and opportunity. I.E. the big retail growth off Union Cross, new Hospital, new freeway access. It is in the heart of the traid between Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem. 15 minutes from the mall, 15 minutes from the airport and also only 90 minutes from downtown Charlotte or Raleigh.
Sorry to get so excited but I drove up to Reidsville the other day to check it out for myself.
I found it to be a VERY sweet and friendly town.
After reading that, "... it's like going back in time 50 years..." statement, I was prepared for racism and ignorance. NONE OF THAT.
Just the opposite.
Now... Kernersville?? THAT'S where you couldn't pay me to live.
It's all a matter of choice, eh?
A new highway is going through that area up there somewhere. Yes, it's closer to Greensboro... but it's suburbia masquerading as "country."
Traffic... houses everywhere. No thank you. That's what I'm trying to get away from!
(Oh, and I didn't see nor pick up on any of that, "dangerous" stuff up there. I even talked with police officers in the area and a sheriff from a neighboring county.)

You go to Reidsville for a day and form a conclusive opinion from that trip. Certainly your perogative, but I'm there at least once per week in the past seven years.
Reidsville also has limited retail options compared to Kernersville. Like others have said, I would prefer Kernersville because of the close proximity to Greensboro and Winston-Salem. Reidsville just seems like a dried up town where progress has just stopped. I would rather live in Lexington or Thomasville over Reidsville. Reidsville is a nice quiet little town but just not the quiet little town I would move to.
Any recent growth in Reidsville for retail has not been "in" Reidsville, but on highway 14 which runs from Reidsville to Eden.
