Why not? The last time I checked, Lexington NC was in the South. In fact the entire state of NC is in the South. However, there are all kinds of southern accents... quite a few different ones in NC.

What's with the recent influx of Lexington posts? Not questioning that this is the appropriate forum for them but it almost seems like a ham handed viral marketing scheme.

Actually there's no such thing as a Southern accent. It's just that everyone who's not from the South talks funny.
