Thanks to some great advice on this forum, we thought we had the decision made to buy a home in Kernersville, rather than Reidsville. But, recently, a new property went up for sale in Summerfield. It might be important to mention that both are log homes, which we love. We also love natural settings and having wildlife around us. It's important to have privacy, but we want to be in a reasonable drive to amenities such as stores, restaurants and medical care. We only have two more years to be concerned about school districts, as our son is a rising junior in high school. Resale value is important to us as well. Both homes are comparable, each having a relatively equal list of "pros" and "cons"; so they "balance out". It is really down to how those two areas compare to each other that will help decide the outcome. I live in Florida still, but my husband moved to NC a little while ago for a job. I flew up for a short visit so that we could view the home in Kernersville, and a few others; later, my husband viewed the home in Summerfield by himself, but I have a good feel for the home with the help of video. However, we really don't have a well-rounded impression of either area. We'd truly appreciate any feedback anyone might have on comparing or contrasting Kernersville and Summerfield. Thanks, in advance, for any advice you might share.

Summerfield is basically a suburb of Greensboro, rural with some amenities, and a short sprint to Greensboro. It's a nice town. The down side is you will be needing to drive into Greensboro for much of your shopping needs and this is where Kernersville beats Summerfield.
Put it this way if you were locked in either city, as in were not allowed to leave, Kernersville would sustain you better.
If you don't mind driving into Greensboro for your needs this is a much tougher choice as opposed to Reidsville.

Summerfield is a popular area. Resale value should hold up much better than Reidsville. I agree that it's a more comparable choice to Kernersville than Reidsville. I don't have children so I can't help with schools, but I would definitely look at your school choices in the two locations and let that help guide you.

Thank you for your post, I will visit more sites regarding the schools.

Also, depending on which websites I visit, it varies between Kernersville and Summerfield, as to which area has a more positive home value trend. Also, I'm finding it difficult to evaluate crime rates between the two areas because Summerfield is tied into the much larger area of Greensboro, thereby affecting that specific area's crime rate index. I'd be very interesting in learning about any crime trends in either area, if anyone has that kind of knowledge.

I live in the Oak Ridge area which is pretty much connected to Summerfield and Greensboro. Where we live at in Oak Ridge, we're just a very short drive via the bypass to shopping. We can get to the shopping Center off of the Guilford County exit in less than 10 minutes, and the Friendly Shopping Center in less than 15 minutes. Not a very bad commute at all in my opinion.
