Bennett, Liberty, or High Point? (Greensboro, Durham: income, live, shop)

I'm pretty sure Durham is not my city.
The Research Triangle is lovely ... but I'm not a "City of Science" kinda guy.

I'm a veteran burnt-out on urban life, who fantasizes about feeding the little chickens, raising BIG dogs, and maybe even a few goats and turkeys. If the goats live, then the following year I'll give a few sheep a try.

I just turned 60.
I have a good retirement income so I don't need to worry about a job.
I'm telling myself I need to create sanctuary, nurturing, and space for creative writing and art projects.
When I get lonely, I need a FRIENDLY city where I can be myself.
(Been through all that corporate phoniness and it makes be gag.)

So... can y'all please do the wonderful magic that you've been doing and bare with me awhile longer?
I've made it this far with City-Data... all I need is a bit more.... .... maybe...

I'm looking at the "City of Art" (Winston-Salem) but if I can't find an affordable place on 2 or more acres, then anywhere in a 45 minute radius will be fine. (Oh... a good coffee shop and Whole Foods is just as important to me as a good nursery and feed supply store.)

So... my "research" has brought up Bennett, Liberty, and surrounding areas of High Point.
Given all I've said, can you offer any suggestions?

(Oh yeah ... I'm a bit of a liberal lefty...)

But I'm not looking for an "All Liberal" county or city.... this is North Carolina.
All I'm looking for is a place that's somewhat rational, peaceful, and friendly.

(Greensboro isn't "liberal" either... but there appears to be friendly enough people there... right?)

Depends on how you define liberal; Greensboro voting polls showed the majority voted against Ammendment One.
You mentioned being close to W-S, have you considered Wallburg, Clemmons, or Lewisville?

Thanks ... for a second I was worried that this tread was going to slip into more muck and mire about politics. (That was just an after-thought.)

1.) Main thing is friendliness ...
2.) Community attitude about the arts ... creating something instead of pulling each other down...
3.) Attitude... is it a place you feel better after being there or drained after you leave?

Either of the three are in within easy reach of W-S (you mentioned Whole Foods), are rural enough to give you space for less money than inside W-S. Clemmons may be the exception as it is pretty much a suburb of W-S.

I see why I'm having problems finding a good spot. I just heard tonight that a "rich investment group from California" came in a bought up everything they could find around the Triangle area.

That means a lot of slum-lord properties are going to materialize within the next five years.
