a second hotel is planned for downtown Greensboro. This time the Wyndham Luxury Hotel plan is back on the table. The planned hotel would be over 10 stories located on S Elm/Davie Streets attached to the Elm Street Center. This would be a conference hotel. Just a few days ago an 8 story downtown hotel was proposed for a site across from the ballpark. It seems that the planned performing arts center has triggered both hotel proposals.

This was the one that was going to rid downtown of the odd looking parking deck at February One/Davie. Yes?

It looks like it dates back to the "never was finished" era.

Someone on another forum made in interesting observation. Here we have two developers racing to build hotels in time for the opening of the Performing Arts Center. These announcements came almost immediately after the city announced it was moving the PAC from the old YWCA site to a larger site on North Elm. The purpose for the move is so there can be room for other development on the site. There could be a third hotel in the mix.....one that could be connected on site with the performing arts center. What if hotel developers Q&W came to the city and told them they would build a hotel with the PAC if it were built on the North Elm site? What if they also provided a nice donation to further close the funding gap for the PAC? Downtown developer Milton Kern said something odd in an article....in reference to Roy Carroll's 8-story hotel plans, he said he thinks its a great idea and he hopes to see a couple more hotels next year. One of those hotels would be the 10+ story Wyndham Greensboro behind the Elm Street Center and the other could be a large hotel attached to the performing arts center itself. If the city wants to top DPAC in Durham, this would a good way to do it. What if this hotel attached to GPAC were a mixed-use building and includes office space? One city council person even made a remark about having a "corporate headquarters" on site would be a good fit. If all this is accurate, we could see the biggest high-rise construction boom since 1990.

remember.......Action Greensboro's original performing arts center plan from 12 years ago was also located on the North Elm Street site and included a tower attached to the PAC

Wait a minute, that site was proposed before the YWCA site and they changed their minds? Again?

Can downtown Greensboro support three new hotels? - Greensboro - The Business Journal

now the number of planned hotels has increased to three ......they're going a little overboard I say they need to add more retail.
