My husband and I are looking into a move to the Winston-Salem area of NC, primarily b/c we saw a job in his field in Clemmons, and it got us looking more closely at the area. We've liked what we've seen, but also know that it's better to get information from people who currently live there than to just read everything and believe everything you read!!
My husband is in the home-building field (not an easy industry to be looking for work in right now, but we've just been keeping our eye out for anything posted, and saw this job that got us looking more closely...) and I am a registered nurse, more specifically in the Labor & Delivery field.
In general, how are jobs in your area, and how is the area faring with the current state of the economy? We're in Upstate NY, and the downturn has certainly affected us in many areas, but some of which are just starting to really feel it.
For any healthcare professionals out there, are the hospitals hiring? How is Novant to work for, and how are the hospitals regarded?
I realize I could ask a million questions, but I'll start with this and see what I get... I'm a little nervous of the answers, but be honest -- if we need to wait a bit for the economy to recover, we will!
I live about 1.5 hours north of the Triad(Winston Salem area) in Roanoke VA.
Virginia has not been as hard hit as NC with the current recession. I understand the Triad has over a 10% unemployment rate and NC is one of the worst states in the nation for employment. Currently Carillion Health Systems is expanding here in Roanoke. It is one of the largest hospital systems in the state. You may have a better chance here as unemployment is 6% locally and state wide. I hope this info helps.
