I always thought it was Winston-Salem. But whenever I enter that in when I'm ordering pizza or looking up directions, it doesn't find anything. It always says that it should be Winston Salem with no dash. What is up with that? This adds to why I've found Winston Salem to be an intriguing city.

The post office doesn't do dashes, so formal postal addresses lack the dash. That probably leaks into other usages, as national databases are probably based on postal addresses. But there is a dash. The baseball team is even called "The Dash".

I've gotten in the habit of skipping the hyphen most of the time. But I love the Dash baseball team. I'm so conflicted. lol

Funny, but the USPS does use a dash in the 9-digit zip codes. But for some reason the standard address listing omits the dash from "Winston-Salem". Go figger.
