If you live in NJ esp. near Newark, spend time in the city (not just the village or midtown) I don't think you will be startled at all by the "CRIME" in greensboro. Just like everything else in life, helps to pay attention and be aware. There are tons of rental options near campus, whether you choose to rent on the college hill side of campus off of mendenhall or Tate st.(or surrounding) or the other side crossing over on the west side of aycock. Most of those areas are saturated with college students and should seem very fitting. Rent is fair. If you want to live in a "complex" there are a few floating around as well.

I would say roughly use Spring Garden as your Southern cut off street and market as your northern cut off street on either side of campus between holden to your west and fulton to your east. This is just my opinion of course. Those boundaries should give you a better idea of where most of the college housing is located. If you visit try and do so when school is in so you can see how many places are student occupied. DEF. VISIT before you start relying on data to make a decision for you.

The other side of downtown is the bad area. Near A&T state University, Phillips Ave. I would not suggest moving in those areas.

I lived in Greensboro for five years And I absolutely hated it. It's very uncultured, the only places to go out are cheesy dance clubs and Yes it is not a very safe place to live. If you are moving to the Triad I recommend Winston Salem I moved here four years ago and love it.

I am considering moving to Greensboro, NC. I am a single mixed raced female and will be moving with my 7 year old son. I am more focused on good school districts. I currently live in St. Louis, MO so, the area is important, but I've dealt with all types. Can someone please tell me where the decent areas are along with good school districts? Thank you so much!!!

North and west areas of the city, downtown has some nice apartment housing as well but may not be ideal for kids. Also you have some magnet elementary school options as well to consider. Good luck!

Do you want more of a rural feel or Greensboro City? Rural / County areas most identify as good will be Oak Ridge / North West (Colfax, Oak Ridge, Summerfield Elem. feeding into NW Middle/High. Northern Middle/High would be similar. All of these have a very high parent involvement. I mention these as I am most familiar with them. I don't think race would be an issue at all. I am sure about the City schools.

East Greensboro is the one area to avoid. Wendover East, East Lee, East Market, etc. The immediate surroundings around NC A&T and Bennett College aren't the best areas of Greensboro. A few pockets south of downtown can be a little sketchy, too (MLK Drive). The areas around UNCG are usually okay, though. Downtown in general could be nicer IMO, but I don't think it's that bad. After all, Elm Street is going down a good path.

Northwest Greensboro is probably the best area. Battleground Avenue (220), New Garden Road, Lake Brandt Road, Hobbs Road, Westridge Road, etc. The Guilford College area is fine, just typical suburban NC. Jefferson Village is a fine shopping center in this area, it'll probably have everything you need. Summerfield, further up 220, is a fine "suburban meets rural" community. There are many nice subdivisions in Summerfield, probably the one area I'd pick if I had to live in Guilford County. In general, it seems like most of the growth and sprawl is heading out northwest of Greensboro and for good reason.

It is. But right now, there's a ton of road construction up that way. It is a hassle getting in and out of town right now. I have to go up to Stokes County for work-slow going.

Very true, one problem about that area at the moment. I feel like they've been working on 220 around Summerfield for years, the construction keeps on going. However, I expect the most out of that area in the future. Nice subdivisions have popped up around Summerfield these past few years, it's starting to remind me of areas in Raleigh north of 540. Sprawl will likely head northwest of Greensboro more than other areas. This isn't quite the case northeast or directly east of Greensboro, a few of those areas like Browns Summit and McLeansville feel more rural than suburban.
