According to a former neighbor who works for the contractor the project is supposed to take 5 years to complete. The new traffic pattern must be stinging the businesses affected by it.

is 757 chestnut st good/safe place, there is an apartment in maps

That's in Fisher Park. It's a lovely neighborhood.

Isn't it on the other side of the railroad tracks from Fisher Park, though? (Literally and figuratively) East of the tracks (close to Aycock School) didn't use to be very nice. Its been a long time since I wandered around there though, so I may well be wrong.

jumpin -- I really hope my response is not too late. Chestnut is NOT in Fisher Park -- I lived on Chestnut for a year when I first moved here & it is not that great of a neighborhood & you definitely want to stay away from those particular apartments.
