I am looking to relocate to Greensboro in April 2008. I have done some internet research and found that Greensboro has a relatively high crime rate compared to the national average. I understand that reports can be skewed; nonetheless, I think sure there is some truth to the reports. My concern is where are the good and bad areas of Greensboro. Any help will greatly be appreciated.

Are you asking about areas within the City of Greensboro or suburban Greensboro?

The only "bad" areas I can think of would be East of OHenry Blvd. (East Wendover, East Market, E Lee St.) and parts of Freeman Mill and Randelman Roads.

Both, I am open to suggestions. I failed to include that I plan to attend Guilford Community College after I get settled. Any suggestions?

My first suggestion (for living in GSO) would be the N.Battleground Avenure corridor. Crime in that area tends to be lower, it's a bit less crowded than other parts of the city (though it is growing fast) and is close to newer constuction areas and the Lake Jeanette area. My second suggestion (closer to GTCC Campus) might be Adams Farm or N. Groometown Road area (GSO) , Jamestown, or Eastern areas of High Point. Good luck. |

Greensboro has also had 7 murders in the last 8 days. Almost sounds like here in Charlotte, but our murder rate is slowing down at the moment. 65 so far this year though (but less than last year).

to be perfectly frank, all of them took place in areas you wouldn't be living. And the city is all over it. I think it's a spike, not a growing trend.

I lived in greensboro for about three years and the only really bad areas were mostly like the other previous posts...........E. Market st., near the N.C. A&T campus and areas of phillips ave and parts of Randleman rd. I think you would probably, in my opinion should stay away from those areas. When I lived in the GSO I have heard of numerous shootings on the eastside of town. My aunt lives just off of S. Elm-Eugene in Woodlea Lake Subdivision which is just a couple of miles south of the I-85/40 interchange. Very nice and clean area and hardly any crime. She live in Woodlea Lake since 1978. She's lived in GSO since 1965, a transplant from the Pittsburgh, PA area like myself. Some of the other nice areas of GSO are just north of the city off of Battleground ave and Lawndale drive and just west off of W. Market street near the airport.

You definately want to consider ALL -3- Metro areas. TRIAD (Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point), TRIANGLE (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) & CHARLOTTE.
Everyone is gonna boast and brag about their own city. ALL are nice areas. you need to visit all 3 and see which one YOU like the most. ALOT of people will bash one city or the other for no reason. Keep an open mind and visit all 3 and you decide on what you want. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! |
